How to enjoy wineries in El Dorado County, California
- 1). Hire a limousine to drive to the wineries of El Dorado County. The wineries exist in small geographic zones like Camino and Apple Hill, Fair Play and Pleasant Valley. The Foothills Area Regional Transportation offers the "Short Bus" -- a renovated school bus, complete with a microwave, to take up to 14 wine lovers around the region.
- 2). Attend the various special events each winery offers throughout the year. They are listed on the individual winery's websites or the El Dorado Winery Association's website. The events range from summertime full moon hunts for Perry Creek Winery's Zin Man to symphony concerts in Madrona Vineyard's cellar.
- 3). Join the fun when wineries gather for a county-wide event such as January's "Bring Out the Barrel" and April's "Passport" weekends. Ticket holders receive a free glass and special food and wine pairings in addition to the opportunity to speak directly to the winemaker.
- 4). Attend the annual Placerville Art and Wine Festival in October. More than 20 wineries gather over a six-block area of downtown Placerville to offer free tastings of their wine.
